The Vegetarian Travels - Spain

Updated: Mar 24, 2020

Hello lovely readers! I hope your new year is going well! For those of you who follow me on Instagram (if you don't, you should 🙃: @srinisblog) you know that I spent part of my winter holidays in Spain!  I thought I would create a series on my blog reflecting on the cites I visited as I traveled through Spain. My family and I actually took the Trafalgar tour which really helped us on this trip, but more about the tour company on the last post of this series when I rate everything! So, sit back, grab a cup of tea, and enjoy my first installment of The Vegetarian Travels : Spain

Post #1 #takemeto Toledo and Madrid.

We had arrived to Spain the night before and had a delicious welcome dinner with out entire tour group. What was supposed to be a "light" dinner was actually almost 6 courses! Which I personally was a HUGE fan of, obviously. We had everything from different cheeses to pasta, this orange tomato soup (which was the best thing ever) and     decadent chocolate truffles. The dinner had amazing champagne and coffee, leaving all of us completely full and ready for the next day! We all woke up at 7 had a huge breakfast at 7:30 with eggs, cheeses, coffee, and so much more! We then boarded the bus on our way to the beautiful city of Toledo. As we walked through the city I fell completely in love with Spain.

It was the beautiful small town with nice people and small streets that you could spend all day in. We walked to a beautiful cathedral when they had the entire nativity scene and the last supper sculpted in stone on the church. We then went to see the famous El Greco painting that's housed in the church in Toledo and as an art history buff I was so happy seeing one of Greco's paintings in the flesh. It was enormous and represented the city beautifully.

Across the cathedral there was a cute Christmas market and we then walked to a small cafe for some coffee and pictures. We had a great cup of Cafe con Leche and Marzipans made by nuns (which if you're Indian taste like kaju kathri)

We then walked to the former Jewish quarter and we learned about how back in the day the adherents of three religions (christians, Muslims, and Jews) lived in peace in the scenic city of Toledo.

Our last stop was at a forgery where a man showed us how blacksmiths made beautiful swords and jewelry out of silver. We then boarded the bus to the hotel for a quick rest before touring Madrid.

With our tour group we had a bus tour of the beautiful city of the Madrid and we saw the highlight of what the amazing city had to offer. We then decided to go to the Prado Muesuem with our new friends to see the beautiful pieces of art that myself and my sister had studied through art history. We saw Las Meniñas and the 3rd of May and I was so amazed at how large the paintings were! Being that I studied them in school and not in person I could not believe large they were in real life and the attention to detail!

For dinner we decided to try a place a person from the museum told us to go to for vegeterian food. WORST decision EVER. It was this vegan place with horrible rubber like cheese that makes me nauseous just thinking about it. However we did pick up some delicious vegan cookies so not all was lost. We then returned back to the hotel and went to sleep after an amazing yet exhausting first day in Spain.

What I wore

These are the exact same boots I wore all over Spain! Super comfortable and I love that it's a flat shoe with only 1/2" heel.

Sweater: I got this sweater from a local store so I can't find the link :(. But it's just an oversized sweater so I've linked some great ones below!

Kate spade purse:

I bought this purse last year and I love it! Kate Spade has really fun designs that are just up my ally. I can't find the exact purse but I'm going to try to find the style number and link it in a later post! In the meantime here are some similar ones from the brand!

Michael Kors jacket: I bought mine a year ago so it's not available, but I have linked one from their website that's quite similar (kind of want it hahah)!

Peace and blessings,

Srini
