This past summer my amazing parents took my sister and I to Greece. I'm extremely grateful to have parents who love to travel and want to show my sister and I the world and it's different cultures. We had the best of times looking at the different cities, trying the local cuisines, experiencing a different cultures, and visiting museums and ruins (that was my second favorite part, I love art history and it was so amazing to see the art I learned in real life). While I loved every minute of Athens, Delphi, and Náfplio, I have to say my favorite part of the trip was Santorini. Santorini is a beautiful island (part of the Cyclades islands) famous for its blue dome churches, picture perfect scenery, and its breathtaking sunset. During our time in Greece, my dad rented a villa with the a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea. We toured the market place of Oía (one of the towns of Santorini), visited the shops, saw the sunset (you can't get tired of it!), spent one of the days on a Yacht, and most importantly relaxed!
Here are somethings you really need to do if you visit Santorini:
- A sailing cruise. This is an absolute must if you are able to do it. We spent the day snorkeling, swimming, and visiting the Red Beach, White Beach, and the Hot Springs. We ended our day watching the beautiful sunset with dinner. We booked a semi private tour (Ammoudi Ocean Voyager 74 Sunset Tour) with Sunset Oia Sailing Cruises. They have a huge fleet with varying prices and I highly recommend the semi private one we took because it is not crowded (they're were only 6 other people with us) and you spend more time at the places, are provided dinner, snacks, drinks, and wifi (which is great for my snapchat/instagram obsessed self).
- The sunset. They're are amazing places to see the sunset but if you can find a remote place you're going to fall in love (and get those insta likes). If you get there early, there are ruins of a castle and you get a beautiful view of the sunset. Make sure you get there early, it really does get crowded!
- Cliff diving. My friends did this and it was the best experience they had! I unfortunately chickened out, for some reason I can sky dive but jumping into the ocean scares me.
- Visit Mykonos. Its not too far from Santorini (just a boat ride away), but its a great place and perfect for couples. Santorini, while still romantic is also a family town where as Mykonos is great for couples as well as a great place to party!
- One last thing I would recommend is renting a villa during your stay. I realize it's not feasible for everyone, but if it is, I would highly highly recommend renting one. It will totally complete your experience!
