Summer Reading List

Hey y’all!

I hope everyone’s summer has been going well💜 Honestly I’m still in shock that I’m done with college! Due to the pandemic, I had a virtual graduation and in many ways I feel happy and content with this chapter being done, but in other ways I feel like this chapter was unfinished. Without the fireworks, the tower, walking on campus with friends, it kinda of feels like everything came to an end abruptly (anyone else?). Still I’m so thankful to have graduated from THE BEST UNIVERSITY, hookem for life🤘🏽

With summer beginning, it’s the first time I don’t really have anything to do. I’m used to spending my summers shadowing, volunteering, taking classes, working, etc. I’m used to being busy. However, I really wanted my summer before medical school to be chill, I was planning on traveling and spending time with family. Relaxing as much as possible before beginning the rigor of medical school. With the pandemic going on, it’s become clear that my summer plans have to change. At first I spent a lot of my days watching Netflix, however a month in and I honestly am so bored of TV haha.

A while ago, I had a meeting with my medical school and they suggested that the best way to prepare is to read a lot of over the summer. That way, come fall, we’re a bit more acclaimed to reading long texts so the transition to reading textbooks and papers wouldn’t be as rough. In college, I wasn’t big in reading textbooks. I listened in class and watched videos to help fill in what I didn’t understand. Yet, I also understand that medical school is different. Reading textbooks is a must, and I’d be lying if I said that I’m used to reading for long periods of time.

In all honestly I used to LOVE reading. However since high school, reading sort of became homework and I stopped being as big of a bookworm. Now that I feel a bit bored watching TV, I’ve started to get into reading and I thought I would write a post dedicated to my reading list. I’m going to try editing it as I go, hopefully you’ll find some of these books interesting to read!

Book List:

  • Persuasion, Jane Austen -> This is my favorite book of ALL time. It's the last completed novel of hers and there's just something nostalgic about reading it. I think it's a pretty easy read (it's shorter than her other novels) and IMO my favorite novel of hers.

  • The Book Thief -> I just finished this novel and I LOVED IT! It's set in the WW2 era and written in the perspective of death. Such a good read!

  • Percy Jackson series -> I'm currently reading the Heroes of Olympus series and it's great! I love reading fantasy fiction so this is great. There are so many books in this series which is great

  • Little Fires Everywhere -> haven't started it, but super excited to read it!

  • My Sister's Keeper -> haven't started it, but super excited to read it!

  • Double Crossed -> haven't started it, but super excited to read it!

  • The Hate You Give -> haven't started it, but super excited to read it!

What are you reading? Please comment and let me know any of your book suggestions! I'm going to update this list as much as possible. I definitely have a good number right now, but I love reading multiple books at once so the list is going to get longer :)

Peace and Love,

Srini
